The application involves 3 inter-related sites allocated for development in the adopted Development Plan aimed at securing regeneration of the area. The proposals relate to sustainably and accessibly located, ‘brownfield’ (PDL) sites adjoining the Town Centre, with convenient access to a full range of services/facilities by all modes of transport. The sites are allocated as Enhancement Opportunity sites within the Stourbridge Area Action Plan 2013.

The sites present a unique opportunity to deliver much needed mixed housing, with an element of appropriately located business development, that combined will preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the area.

 

Former Rolling Mills Site:

46 new market apartments are proposed within four blocks situated parallel with the Canal Street frontage. The principal elevation faces the Stourbridge Canal and Canal Street, as the primary historic, public realm of the Conservation Area.

 

Commercial Offices Bradley Road:

Two, 2 storey pitched roof office buildings are proposed fronting and accessed via Bradley Road. The buildings will be set back from Bradley Road with a landscaped communal parking court at the frontage. All elevations have positive public realm aspects, with heritage industrial aesthetics to reflect the commercial history of the site and providing a visual link with the proposed development at the former ‘Rolling Mills’ site.

 

Linkwood Site:

48 new social housing apartments are proposed within four, 4 storey dual aspect blocks oriented and aligned to positively address the river Stour to the north and west. Proposed architectural details include feature brickwork with projecting headers which reflect the industrial / canal aesthetic of the vicinity.
